Frequently asked questions
Everything we get asked most often. If your question isn't here, ring us on 01670 512895 or email caroline@mypethq.co.uk — a real person will answer.
Ordering
How do I place an order?
Browse or search for what you need, choose any options such as size or flavour, and select Add to basket. When you're ready, go to your basket and select Checkout. You'll enter your delivery address, pick how you'd like to receive your order, and pay. We'll email you a confirmation straight away, and again when your order is on its way.
Do I need an account to order?
No — you can check out as a guest. It's worth knowing what you give up though: a guest order can't collect My Pet Club points, and you won't be able to track it or find it again in an order history. An account takes a moment to set up and saves your addresses, keeps a record of everything you've bought so you can reorder it in a couple of taps, and earns your points automatically.
What payment methods do you accept?
All the major debit and credit cards, plus PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay. Whichever you use, payment is handled securely and we never see or store your card details.
Can I order by phone?
We can't take orders or card payments over the phone, so online is the way to place an order. But if you've got a question about a product, or you're not sure what's right for your pet, do ring us on 01670 512895 — that's exactly the sort of call we like getting.
Is there a minimum order?
No minimum, for either postal delivery or our own local delivery. Order one tin or a month's worth, it's up to you.
Can I change or cancel an order after placing it?
Yes, up until it's been packed and a shipping label has been generated. We usually ship within 24 hours of an order being placed, or on the next working day if you've ordered over the weekend, so be quick. Ring us on 01670 512895 rather than emailing — it's faster, and once the label exists we can't stop it.
Do you price match?
We don't, and we'd rather be straight with you about why. We're a small independent shop buying at independent volumes, so we price as keenly as our suppliers let us. What we can offer instead is a range we've chosen ourselves, product by product, because we think it's good — not because it came with the best margin.
Do you offer trade or breeder discounts?
Not at the moment, no.
Can I order something you don't normally stock?
Often, yes. If one of our suppliers can get it, we'll order it in for you to collect from the shop or take on local delivery. Special orders aren't available for postal delivery. Give us a ring on 01670 512895 and we'll tell you what's possible and how long it's likely to take.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
We do, in the shop — we'll issue one for any amount you like. They can't be bought or redeemed online yet, but it's on the list.
Delivery
How much is delivery?
UK postal delivery is a flat £4.50, and free on orders over £100. Our own local delivery is £3.50. Click & Collect from the shop is always free.
When will my order arrive?
Order before 11am Monday to Thursday and it goes out the same day, arriving the next working day. Orders placed after 11am, or on a Friday or over the weekend, go out on the next working day.
Which courier do you use?
DPD. We'd recommend downloading the DPD app — it lets you watch your parcel on the day, change the delivery date, or nominate a safe place or a neighbour.
Can I choose a delivery date?
Not at the point of ordering. Everything goes out for next working day, and once DPD have your parcel you can use their app or the text they send you to move it to a day that suits you better.
What if I'm out when it arrives?
DPD will try again the next working day and leave a card so you can reschedule. If you'd rather it went to a safe place, a neighbour or a pickup shop, you can set that up in the DPD app or from their notification.
Do you deliver to the Highlands and Islands?
Our postal delivery covers the UK mainland only. If you're outside that area, do get in touch before ordering and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.
Do you deliver outside the UK?
Not at present. That includes Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Republic of Ireland.
My order hasn't arrived. What should I do?
Check the DPD tracking first — nine times out of ten it'll tell you where the parcel is. If it's shown as delivered and you haven't got it, or it's a day past when it should have arrived, ring us on 01670 512895 within 24 hours and we'll chase it with DPD and sort you out.
Can I collect from the shop instead?
Yes, and it's free. Choose Click & Collect at checkout. Orders are usually ready within 24 hours and we'll email you when yours is waiting. We'll hold it for 7 days.
Local delivery
Do you deliver locally yourselves?
We do, and it's the part of the job we enjoy most. Local delivery is £3.50 with no minimum order, and it's our own van, not a courier. It's also the only way to get frozen food delivered.
Which postcodes do you cover?
We run three local rounds covering NE61, NE62, NE63, NE64, NE22, NE24, NE3, NE12, NE13, NE23, and NE25 to NE30. Each area has its own day. Pop your postcode in at checkout and it'll tell you whether you're covered.
What time will you arrive?
Order by 2pm on your area's delivery day and it'll come that day. The van sets off from around 4pm. We can't give you a precise slot yet, but Di, who drives our local round, will usually drop you a text when your order's been left, with a photo of where it is. A proper notification system is something we want to add as local delivery grows.
What if I'm not in for a local delivery?
We'll leave it in a safe place if there's an obvious one. If there isn't, or Di isn't sure, she'll ring you before deciding rather than guess. Frozen orders are packed in an insulated box, so a short wait on the doorstep won't hurt them.
Can I mix frozen and normal items in one order?
Yes. Everything we sell is available on local delivery, frozen or not, with no minimum order. One order, one £3.50 charge, one drop.
How is frozen food packed for local delivery?
In an insulated polystyrene box, with ice packs added when the weather or the length of the round calls for it.
Will my frozen food arrive frozen?
Yes. It leaves the shop frozen, travels in an insulated box, and should reach you the same way. If anything ever arrives soft or damaged, tell us and we'll replace it — at no cost to you, no argument.
Why can't frozen food be posted?
Because we can't promise it would stay frozen in a courier's network overnight, and we're not willing to send you food we can't stand behind. Frozen is local delivery or Click & Collect only.
Returns
What's your returns policy?
You've got 30 days to return anything unused and in its original packaging. Email us first on caroline@mypethq.co.uk so we know it's coming and can get your refund moving as soon as it lands.
Can I return something bought in the shop, online — or the other way round?
Yes, both ways. Anything bought online can be brought back to the shop, and anything bought in the shop can be returned by post. Bring your receipt or order number either way. The one exception is frozen food, which we can't take back unless there's something wrong with it.
Can I return food my dog didn't like?
Unopened, yes, within 30 days. Once a bag or tin has been opened we can't resell it, so for food safety reasons it can't come back. If you're unsure about a new food, ask us first — we'd far rather talk it through than have you stuck with a big bag of something that doesn't suit.
Something arrived damaged or wrong. What now?
Email us at caroline@mypethq.co.uk within 48 hours with a photo and your order number and we'll put it right, either a replacement or a refund, whichever you'd prefer. You won't be out of pocket.
Who pays return postage?
You do for a change of mind. We do if the item is faulty, damaged, or simply not what you ordered.

Is there parking?
Yes — we have our own customer parking, with one hour free. It's managed by Europarking Services, so please enter your registration on the tablet by the till when you arrive, otherwise you may be charged. There's also free council parking nearby with three hours on a disc.
Can I bring my dog in?
Please do, we'd be disappointed if you didn't. We just ask that dogs stay on a lead the whole time they're in the shop. If you use a flexi lead, lock it short — there's a lot to sniff and not much room to do it in.
Do you have everything in the shop that's on the website?
Not quite, and it works both ways. The shop carries some things the website doesn't — Perfect Fit harnesses, vet bed, loose-weigh biscuits and whatever seasonal bits we've got in. So it's always worth a visit. If you're making a special trip for something in particular, ring ahead and we'll put it by.
Can you order something in for me to collect?
Yes. If we can get it, we'll get it. Ring us on 01670 512895 and we'll let you know what's possible.
Do you do samples?
Rarely, and we'd rather not promise what we can't deliver — very few suppliers give us samples to hand out. When we do have them, they're in the shop. What we can always do is talk you through the options and help you pick a smaller bag to try first.
Products
Can you help me choose a food?
Gladly — it's the thing we're best at, and the reason a lot of our customers come to us rather than buy from a warehouse. Tell us the breed, the age, how active they are, anything they've reacted to before, and what you're hoping to change. Ring us, email us, or come in. There's no obligation and we won't push you towards the expensive end.
How do I know how much to feed?
Every food has its own guide on the pack, and they vary more than you'd think. Our feeding calculator will give you a starting point based on your dog's weight, age and activity level. Treat it as a starting point — then watch your dog's condition over a few weeks and adjust. If you're not sure, ask us.
Is the food you sell suitable for puppies?
Much of it, yes. We carry a wide range of puppy and growth foods covering most dietary needs, including grain-free and sensitive options. Browse the Puppy section, or ask us — getting the first food right matters more than almost anything else you'll buy.
Do you sell veterinary diets?
We stock a range of vet-approved diets for specific health needs. If your vet has recommended a particular diet, ring us with the name and we'll tell you whether we have it or can get it in. We'd always suggest staying in touch with your vet about any diet prescribed for a diagnosed condition.
Do you stock cat food as well?
We do. The shop reads a bit dog-first, but there's a full cat range on the site — wet and dry food, litter, treats, toys and health products. Cat owners are very welcome, in the shop and online.
How do I store raw food?
Keep it frozen until you need it, defrost in the fridge rather than on the worktop, and use it within a couple of days of defrosting. Our raw feeding guide goes into more detail, including how to switch a dog over without upsetting their stomach.
Something I want is out of stock. Will you get it back?
Almost always, yes. Use the back-in-stock alert on the product page and we'll email you the moment it lands — no need to keep checking. If you'd rather know roughly when that'll be, ring us on 01670 512895 and we'll tell you what's on order.
My Pet Club
Is there a loyalty scheme?
There is — My Pet Club. Join and you'll earn points on everything you buy, online or in the shop, and turn them into money off whenever you like. It's free to join and there's nothing to carry.
What happened to my loyalty points? I was in My HQ Club.
Nothing — they've all come across with you. My HQ Club is now My Pet Club, your balance is exactly as it was, and it's worth exactly what it was worth before. The scheme itself is simpler than it used to be: the same rewards, now a couple of clicks rather than a conversation at the till.
How do I reorder something I bought before?
Sign in to your account and look at your order history. Everything you've bought is listed, with a button to put it straight back in your basket.
How do I unsubscribe from emails?
There's an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email we send, and it takes effect immediately. You can unsubscribe from marketing and still get your order confirmations and delivery updates — those are separate.
About us
Are you a real shop or just a website?
A real shop, very much so. We've been on Oldgate in Morpeth since 2017, and before that we ran a market stall from 2015. The website is new; the shop isn't. Come in and say hello — bring the dog.
Why should I buy from you rather than a big retailer?
Honestly, if all you want is the cheapest bag of food delivered tomorrow, a big retailer may beat us on price. What we offer is someone who knows the products, has usually tried them on their own animals, and will tell you when the cheaper option is the better one. Plus our own van on local rounds, and a shop you can walk into when something's gone wrong.
Do you sell anything you wouldn't feed your own dog?
No. Everything on our shelves is something we'd give our own dogs or cat — some of it as a cupboard staple, some as an occasional treat. That's the test we apply before we stock anything, and it's why the range is smaller and more considered than you'll find in a superstore.
Still stuck? Ring 01670 512895, email caroline@mypethq.co.uk, or come and see us at 15-17 Oldgate, Morpeth NE61 1QF.
